Growing up in a family closely connected to basketball could easily define a person before they have the chance to create their own identity. Amirah O’Neal, however, built a basketball story of her own while carrying one of the sport’s most recognizable surnames.
Born November 13, 2001, Amirah Sanaa O’Neal is the daughter of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and television personality and entrepreneur Shaunie Henderson. She became publicly known through her famous family, but her years in competitive basketball gave audiences another reason to follow her journey.

Growing Up in the O’Neal Family
Amirah grew up surrounded by basketball, but that does not mean her path was simply an extension of her father’s career. She developed her own experience on the court while growing up alongside siblings who also became familiar names to basketball followers.
Her publicly listed siblings include Myles, Shareef, Shaqir, Taahirah and Me’Arah O’Neal. Basketball has been especially visible in the lives of Shareef, Shaqir and Me’Arah, which has made the O’Neal family an ongoing point of interest among sports fans.
Still, Amirah’s story is best understood on its own rather than only through comparison with Shaquille O’Neal or her siblings.
Her Early Basketball Years
Amirah played high-school basketball at Crossroads School in California before being homeschooled during her senior year. During her junior season, she averaged 17.2 points per game, showing that basketball was more than simply a family association.
Her high-school performances helped establish her as a capable forward before she entered the college game. Instead of arriving with the same professional expectations attached to her father’s name, her college experience became a quieter chapter focused on development and finding her own place within competitive basketball.
College Basketball at LSU
In the 2020–21 season, Amirah joined the LSU women’s basketball program as a preferred walk-on.
Her time at LSU was relatively brief, but it remains an important part of her public basketball history. The move also connected her with a university that had already become familiar to the O’Neal family because of Shaquille O’Neal’s celebrated college career there.
Amirah was listed as a forward and studied Agricultural Business, with an emphasis in International Business. That academic choice offers a useful reminder that her college years were not centered only on athletics.
Moving to Texas Southern
After LSU, Amirah transferred to Texas Southern University, appearing on its women’s basketball roster for the 2021–22 season.
Her official college listings also explain why readers may find different answers about her height. LSU listed her at 6 feet 1 inch, while Texas Southern later listed her at 6 feet 2 inches. Rather than treating one figure as unquestionably correct, it is more accurate to acknowledge that her official team profiles differed.
Later public reporting indicated that Amirah stepped away from college basketball. Because recent authoritative information about a return to competitive basketball is limited, older college rosters should not be interpreted as proof that she is still an active player today.
Life Beyond Basketball
Basketball is an important part of Amirah O’Neal’s public story, but it does not provide a complete picture. During her college years, her listed personal interests included drawing, painting and cooking, offering a small glimpse into interests away from sports.
Public information about her present-day professional direction is more limited. That privacy should be respected rather than filled with assumptions about her career, relationships or finances.
There is also no strong basis for presenting speculative online estimates of an Amirah O’Neal net worth as fact. Her father’s wealth and career success should not be treated as evidence of her personal finances.
Conclusion
Amirah O’Neal’s public story combines a famous basketball family with a sporting path that was distinctly her own. From a strong high-school career to LSU and later Texas Southern, she experienced college basketball without following exactly the same route as her father or siblings.
Today, the most reliable picture of Amirah is that of a former college basketball player whose public profile extends beyond being Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter. With limited confirmed information about her current professional life, the fairest approach is to focus on what is documented and allow her private life to remain private.
